Ambientica

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an Apple Music subscription?

No. You can play music from your library (purchased songs, imported CDs) without a subscription. An Apple Music subscription is only required for catalog search and streaming. The visual effects and clock work with or without music.

What is the 14-day free trial?

When you first install Ambientica, all Premium features (20 visual effects + Custom Sticker + Auto Play) are unlocked for 14 days at no cost. After the trial ends, you can continue using the free effects (Rainfall, Snowfall, Dusk, Stardust) or upgrade to Premium for a one-time purchase of $6.99.

How do I restore my purchase?

Open Settings (gear icon) and tap "Upgrade to Premium". On the purchase screen, tap "Restore Purchase". Your Premium access will be restored if you have previously purchased it with the same Apple ID.

Which devices are supported?

Ambientica requires iOS 26.2, iPadOS 26.2, or macOS 26.2 or later, and works on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It is a universal app — one purchase covers all platforms.

Is there a Mac version?

Yes! As of v1.1, Ambientica is a universal app that runs natively on Mac. All 20 visual effects, clock customization, and music playback work on Mac. Use Cmd+, to open Settings, and Esc to close the effects drawer, Search, or Settings. The Mac version is designed to run continuously as an ambient display without pausing on focus loss.

Can I use Ambientica as a shop or cafe display?

Yes! Use the Custom Sticker feature to place your logo on screen, choose a visual effect that matches your atmosphere, and connect your device to a display via HDMI if needed. Ambientica is perfect for creating ambient BGM displays.

How do I change the visual effect?

Tap the sparkle (✨) button at the top left to open the effects drawer. The top row holds the 12 scene effects — pick one, or choose "None". The bottom row holds the 8 overlay effects, and you can turn on as many of those as you like on top of a scene. The drawer stays interactive, so you can keep touching the background while you browse.

How do I customize the clock?

Open Settings and go to the Clock section. You can choose from 12 fonts, and most of them offer up to 5 weights (Thin, Light, Regular, Medium, Bold) — 40 combinations in all. Variable Fonts like Playfair Display, Museo Moderno, and Bodoni Moda provide smooth weight transitions, while single-weight faces such as Didot, Gravitas One, and Chicago (Pixel) have no weight option. You can also adjust the clock position (X/Y), opacity, color (White or Black), shadow, size, and toggle 12/24 hour, seconds, and date display.

What is the News Ticker?

The News Ticker is a macOS-only feature that displays scrolling RSS news headlines on screen. You can configure it in Settings on Mac. It is not available on iPhone or iPad.
